Written Planning
Written planning is any planning that is in a written format which is used to covey or gain a better understanding of the technicalities of the product. This can range from the initial brief to the final proposal and is used throughout the development process. Usually, written planning consists of notes from some sort of verbal meeting. These notes arent usually detailed due to the fact that they are only paraphrasing what was said verbally but they are later built upon by the team and developed into other forms of planning such as visual planning that generates a visual prototype of the ideas that were written down. Written planning is something that also takes place at the beginning of the development in the form of mindmaps and flowcharts. These function as the springboard that the developers can generate their initial ideas from. Before any form of idea based planning there is always a brief that the developers must use and manipulate in order to make the end product. The brief itself also serves as a sort of written planning because it is the first piece of planning that will contribute to what is made in the end. Later in the development process, the developers must write proposals and pitch briefs to encourage people to fund the development of the product. This is also an example of written planning.
What are mindmaps?
Mindmaps are a form of written planning that is made during the begining of the development process. They are diagrams used to organise thoughts, ideas or forms of verbal communication. Usually they are centered around a single idea or concept (in this case, a road safety game) and the creator of the mindmap elaborates on this concept in order to develop a fully fleshed-out idea. They are useful for coming up with ideas when the brief you are given is very bare and vague. Below is my mindmap that I made during the early development of my game as a means of brainstorming ideas for what my game will be like.

what are flow charts?
A flow chart is a graphical or symbolic representation of a process. Each step in the process is represented by a different symbol and contains a short description of the process step. The flow chart symbols are linked together with arrows showing the process flow direction. They are types of written planning that are mainly used toward the end of the planning process when the initial idea is fully fleshed-out, the game process is developed and each element of the product (in this case, the level) needs to be arranged in a suitable order.
Minutes, also known as notes, are the instant written record of a meeting or some form of verbal planning. They typically describe the events of the meeting, starting with a list of attendees, a statement of the issues considered by the participants, and related responses or decisions for the issues.
